Job Description

Our client is a successful and well-established engineering business with a strong client base across the UK and Ireland. They are now seeking an experienced Transport Manager to join their team at their South Down headquarters.

This is a key role, responsible for overseeing and co-ordinating the company’s transport operations across the UK, Ireland, and occasionally Europe.

Key Responsibilities:

• Co-ordinate loads for shipping on running units or trailers, ensuring unaccompanied trailers are returned for loading.
• Book ferries and arrange necessary shipping logistics.
• Manage driver hours in line with RHA guidelines and VOSA regulations.
• Secure permits for abnormal loads across the UK and Ireland.
• Ensure compliance with load weight limits.
• Manage vehicle availability for inspections and PSVs.
• Organise breakdown recoveries across the UK.
• Plan driver holiday cover to maintain smooth operations.

Candidate Criteria:

• Proven experience in transport / logistics management, including:
  • Shipping and ferry bookings.
  • Freight paperwork.
  • VOSA regulations & drivers’ hours restrictions.
  • Booking PSVs & recording maintenance.
  • Freight logistics, optimising loads and minimising mileage.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and act with urgency.
• Good IT proficiency.
• Flexibility with working hours when required.
